Patient Treatment Destinations Overview + Video
Use this report to understand where patients who received procedures and service of interest in a defined location originate from and where they ultimately go to receive that relevant treatment. The procedures and services of interest are defined by your codeset.
All claims are analyzed for patients who originated from counties within a 100-mile radius from the county where the targeted facility is located. The analysis includes where those patients received care. If the patient exits the county of origin to receive care, the patient is considered a “leaked” or lost patient. The 100-mile radius can be changed from the report settings.
Leakage
High overall leakage is a financial threat to any hospital. Leaked patients not only represent a missed revenue and reimbursement opportunity for that service, but potentially missed revenue for the lifetime of the patient. Being aware of the preferences and ultimate destinations patients select for care can help a facility decrease the patient leakage rate. Increasing the rate of relevant patients getting treated at this facility will both grow the immediate financials of the facility, but also pay dividends over time.
Relevant Patients By County Of Origin
This section shows the counties of origin for patients who received procedures and services of interest. The scale represents the number of relevant patients in each county, lighter green means fewer patients, darker green means more patients originate from each county.
In this report section right below the above map you will see 2 tables. The table lists each county within a 100-mile radius from the targeted facility’s location. The column labeled patients summarizes the number of Medicare beneficiaries originating from that county who received a procedure of interest, as defined by your codeset. The last column shows the number of those patients that received the procedures of interest at the targeted facility.
The first table is sorted based on number of patients receiving relevant treatment. The county with the greatest number of patients receiving treatment is listed first.
The second table is sorted based on the number of patients receiving relevant treatment at the targeted facility. The county with the greatest number of patients receiving treatment at the targeted facility is listed first.
Ratio Of Patients Who Stayed vs. Those Who Left
This section shows the ratio of patients leaving their counties of origin to receive care at a facility other than the targeted facility. Where the color tends toward green, more patients stayed in their county of origin than left. As the color of the county tends toward yellow to red, more patients left than stayed.
Patient Treatment Summary
The table summarizes the total number of relevant Medicare patients in the targeted county who received a procedure or service of interest. In addition, the table summarizes the number of relevant patients who received care at the targeted facility as well as the number of relevant patients who did not receive care at the targeted facility. The last column represents how many more patients the focal facility would capture if they captured 10% of those who leave.
